About Rufty Tufty
"What is Rufty Tufty?"

Rufty Tufty is a versatile 3-piece folk dance band based in the heart of Warwickshire near Stratford-on-Avon. We play a variety of instruments including fiddle, mandolin, banjo, keyboard, recorder and guitar, in all of the different styles of music needed for a successful dance.
"What do I do next?"

If you are planning a barn dance or ceilidh, or you want a band to play for your club dance, contra, or Playford Ball, Rufty Tufty can play the music to make your dance go with a swing. We have tunes from all over Britain, plus America and Europe, and some we have written ourselves, so you are bound to hear some familiar tunes, and probably some new tunes too.

To find out how to run a successful dance see our Running a Barn Dance page.

"Can anybody do it?"

The great thing about barn dances and ceilidhs is that everyone can join in. Some dances might be full of high-energy moves but others might be graceful and gentle suiting those who prefer a more relaxed pace. Some dances may involve changing partners so everyone gets a chance to meet, while others can give couples a chance to dance together.

"But I can't dance!"

Dont worry about whether you know how to dance or not. The caller will tell you all you need to know and will make sure everyone has a great time.

New! If you've never done this before have a look at our Dance with Rufty Tufty - Long Cross page, where you will find the instructions for a simple dance and a recording of us playing it with a caller calling it. This will give you an idea of what to expect at one of our dances.

We know some excellent callers and will book one for you if you require, but if you would prefer to book your own caller we are happy to work with them.

All of our equipment is PAT-tested and, of course, we are fully insured.

"I'd like to find out more."
